Paragliding at the Nid d’Aigle Beach Base
The flying experience
One of the most famous flying sites in Morocco, Le Nid d'Aigle, is located in southern Morocco, about 120 km south of Agadir, between Aglou and Mirleft. This Eagle's Nest is situated on top of a ridge with about 100m of elevation, facing the sea which is one kilometer away. It benefits from the sea breeze, allowing for soaring along the ridges for 5 to 6 kilometers. These ridges face the North-East winds and on good days you can achieve heights up to 1000 meters.
South of Morocco is a perfect place to relax. It's very quiet, the locals are welcoming and the weather is incredible specially during winter. The most exciting is that depending on the strength and direction of the wind you can change to different spots. If the wind is too strong there are some very nice sand dunes just below. Perfect for playing all day long!
The team at the Eagles nest has worked hard to create a perfect place to host pilots who like to travel with their paraglider. Everything has been designed to provide a peaceful, relaxing and unique paragliding holiday. You will sleep, eat and swim... and won’t miss one minute of flying.
After your flying day, you can enjoy our traditional hammam and a massage, or have a drink in front of the sea! Moroccan local pilots are very friendly: they will advise you and help you to be at the right place at the right moment. When it’s not flyable, there are several alternative spots nearby. You will love our place not only because of the flying but also by discovering this wonderful country, its amazing cullture, delicious food, and all its rich colours.

Aglou Beach:
For an excellent soaring experience you can do a short drive to the Aglou Beach site. You can soar and top-land on the cliffs and do some good low proximity flying over local fisherman villages. It offers smooth laminar conditions, and is great for beginner pilots.
What is exciting about this place?
Spectacular flying on the edge of the Atlantic. Lots of messing about with your wing, you can glide to the beach and go for a swim, or soar until sunset, and finish the day with some delicious Moroccan food.
Is it beginner friendly?
The Eagle’s Nest is considered an accessible site for beginners, thanks to the constant laminar breeze. You can play around for hours with your wing, whether it’s kiting or flying. It’s the best place to gain confidence. If you land at the bottom, there are no particular difficulties, and after a few days, you'll likely learn to land at the top, facilitated by the breeze. However, it is important to note that Eagle's Nest can present challenges, especially in terms of managing the wing when the wind gets stronger. Takeoff assistance is crucial for those with limited experience. It's advised to openly discuss your level of groundhandling with the locals, who are familiar with the site.

What are the local regulations?
Authorization:
In order to fly in Morocco, you need to have an authorisation delivered by the Moroccan Civil Aviation Authority CAA (Direction Générale de l'Aviation Civil DGAC). This is what you need to provide: Copy of your passport, Evidence of third party liability, Evidence of pilot rating, fill out some forms. You can ask a local paragliding club to submit the forms for you, preferably about 60 days before your arrival.
When you are in Morocco:
This is what you need have on you: Your passport, your pilot qualification, and current third party liaibility and the authorisation from the CAA.
Permitted flying area:
You are legally required to fly in the Airspace designated for paragliding. You can find this in French at [https://siamaroc.onda.ma/cartes_vfr.htm]. Make sure to ask the local pilots about this Airspace before you fly.
Know before you go
Nid d’Aigle:
To access the take-off there is a daily launch fee (if you do not stay in the "Nid d'Aigle" guesthouse).
Be cautious of south and north winds, as they can pose weather hazards. For more information, you can contact Francois or Siham.
It's important to note that Eagle's Nest can present challenges, especially in terms of managing the wind for a successful takeoff. Takeoff assistance is crucial for those with limited experience. It's advised to openly discuss your level and safety needs with the instructor.
Landing Zone: Located is at 60m on the road to takeoff. Please Avoid landing in planted fields, as this will destroy the site.
The locals have to do more than three years of ground handling before they start flying a paraglider, imagine the level of control they have. They will demonstrate those skills at this relatively windy take-off.
Mirleft:
Mirleft is a small fishing village with a hippie atmosphere, the inhabitants are cool and smiling and we eat fresh fish for a few euros. [1 kg de sardines 20 Dhs / 2 €] Good plan: buy your fish at the market in the late afternoon and have it grilled at the gargottes just behind.
Aglou Beach:
Actually this flying site is located in an bird protection area. Even if the birds are here for only about 2 months a year, PG is offically prohibited all year round (see sign at entrance), so we are just tolerated here. Please behave respectfully.

Climate and Weather
When is best to go fly here?
In terms of general forecast, Morocco is a perfect destination for winter flying. However, coastal soaring can be done all year around. The climate of the Atlantic coast resembles that of the Canaries, offering pleasant temperatures and consistent winds throughout the year. The trade winds combined with thermic air create optimal conditions to fly, and will help you to get reacquainted with your wing and gain some practice and confidence.
How are the flying conditions?
Located at 300 meters from the sea, the take-off is wide and clear, and toplanding is a safe and easy option. Conditions in general are soft in the morning and in the evening, thermic in the afternoon and perfect at sunset. You can fly easily along the ridge for several kilometers in both directions. When there are thermic conditions you can try a short out and return towards the next village, about 17km each way.
You can fly here all year long but in July and August sometimes it gets foggy - due to high temperatures inland, which results in bad visibility for flying. The rest of the year, you can fly nearly every day.
Weather conditions can be hazardous if the wind is too far south or north. The site can become katabatic as the sun sets. Be cautious of potential sink areas over the cacti near the take-off.
Best wind direction: NNW NW WNW

What to do on your day off?
This gorgeous coastal region is full of things to discover, with options varying from hiking, fishing and surfing, to visiting the local cities and villages. You could go cycling or even do an off-road tour with a quad. Feeling like relaxing? Enjoy the panoramic view of the ocean, while drinking a typical Moroccan tea, or pay a visit to a Hammam (hot steam bath).
If you are staying at “Le Nid d’Aigle” you might want to chill by the swimming pool, to enjoy the sea-view from your deckchair, or go to the SPA where they offer hammams, scrubs and massages but also other treatments such as nail care and hairdressing. Nothing like a good traditional massage after a long flight or hiking day.
For the more athletic they offer bikes for rent, a slackline, a pétanque court, a ping-pong table, so you will not be bored.
Within a range of about 15 kilometers you can find a selection of other activities guided by professionals, such as surfing, quad biking, fishing, horse riding, camel rides, and hiking.
Nearby towns and villages like Tiznit, Tafraoute, Mirleft, Legzira, Sifi Ifni, are worth a visit if you are feeling cultural, and want to experience the Moroccan lifestyle.
Food tip:
Mirleft is a small fishing village with a hippie atmosphere, the inhabitants are cool and smiling and you can eat fresh fish for a few euros. You can basically buy your fish at the market in the late afternoon and have it grilled at the gargottes just behind.
