The Flying Experience

Guelmim is a city in southern Morocco, often called Gateway to the Desert. The paragliding base is located near Sidi Borja, Guelmim-Oued Noun.

What is exciting about this place?

Is it beginner friendly?

This site is excellent for beginners. You can play around for hours with your wing, whether it’s kiting or flying. It’s the best place to gain confidence as a pilot of any level.

What are the local regulations?

Before booking your plane tickets to Morocco, there is few things to do to avoid any issues with local authorities.

Authorisation before you go:
In order to fly in Morocco, you need to have an authorisation delivered by the Moroccan Civil Aviation Authority CAA (Direction Générale de l'Aviation Civil DGAC). This is what you need to provide: Copy of your passport, Evidence of third party liability, Evidence of pilot rating, Filled annexes. When you are in Morocco:
This is what you need have on you: Your passport, your pilot qualification, and current third party liaibility and the authorisation from the CAA.

Permitted flying area:
you are legally required to fly in the area designated for paragliding as described in the Airspace page: http://flymorocco.info/en/airspaces.html

What to bring?

Check out our Packing List to find out what to bring on a paragliding trip. Apart from this list, the locals recommend you should bring the following:

Must haves:
Passport (valid for at least 6 months on entry), paragliding insurance and documents, certified wing, certified harness (with recently re-packed reserve parachute), paragliding helmet (preferably EN966 certified), sturdy flying shoes or ankle boots, gloves, radio, towel and bathing suit, mobile phone, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, and a first aid kit for travel.

Clothing:
Bring summer clothing as it will probably be hot and sunny during the day. And also bring warmer clothing for the evenings.

Extra:
Vario, GPS, camera, and reading material.

What to do on your day off?

Not flying? Go to Legzira dromadair to ride dromedary. +212 659-354003 location: 29°26'25.7"N 10°06'03.4"W

The beach at Legzira is pretty stunning. Try to get there in the afternoon, when the sunlight hits the right part of the arches. Do check the tide time so you will not get stuck.

The beach and arches are well worth a visit. The beach starts on the north end at about Legzira, a location with several beach side restaurants and continues south pass a couple arches for several kms. The beach at the north end is accessible from the highway by a paved road to a parking area just about the restaurants. You can then walk along the beautiful sandy beaches through a couple arches. Be sure to consult a tide table to ensure the tides are low enough. A few spots are covered during high tide. The southern end of the beach and some of the arches can also be reached by dirt roads running west from the highway and then a short hike down. Highly recommended.
