Paragliding at the La Malinche Base

The Flying Experience

Cerro de La Malinche is a mountain located in the state of Tlaxcala, about two hours from Mexico City. The mountain offers great paragliding conditions, with thermal currents that can keep you aloft for hours. Cerro de La Malinche also has stunning views of the surrounding countryside, making it a popular spot for paragliders and photographers alike.

La Malinche Launch is unique in the region; the intersection of three valleys releases a consistent daily house thermal. It is the best local launch for both local and XC flights, providing options for 360 degrees and landing zones in all directions, as well as an extensive system of inexpensive taxis to take you where you wish.
Pilots new to this site should get a briefing of the multiple landing and XC options.
The large grass launch is maintained year around exclusively for paragliding by the paragliding owners and can easily accommodate 4 – 5 gliders.
Winds are predictably Southwest, South, and Southeast.
Top landings are common for local Mexican tandem pilots and should present no problems for intermediate pilots.

LZ
The Cabanas (Cabins) Piano LZ is located to the left below a clearing North of 3 cabins. This LZ is NOT recommended for mid-day flights, due to a thermal trigger below Launch.
The Road Piano LZ is below Launch to the right and runs North-South to the village below.

There are trials from both LZs backup to Launch; these can be walked in less than 40 minutes. The Cabanas LZ trail is located to the right of the fence. It follows the ridgeline uphill, then heads to the right, above the cows and water holding pool.
