What is it like?

It might still be winter in Europe, but Morocco will offer some of the best flying conditions of the year.

Are you a female pilot, who speaks Spanish, with some thermal experience? Someone who loves to combine a unique cultural travel experience with the joy of team flying, and participate in flying activities? Are you excited by the idea of exploring new flying sites, seeing some spectacular landscapes in both rugged mountains and coastal areas?

Come join the Voleteras in Morocco next spring, and travel along with like-minded pilots in a supportive, and empowering environment.

Who is it for?

You are:
1. … a female pilot over 18, who speaks Spanish.
2. … someone who loves to combine a unique cultural travel experience with the joy of team flying, and participate in flying activities.
3. … looking for a small group of like-minded pilots in a supportive, and empowering environment.
4. … excited by the idea of exploring new flying sites, seeing some new spectacular landscapes in both rugged mountains and coastal areas.
5. … a pilot that has some XC experience and thermalling in gaggles. (We encourage you to get in touch with us to evaluate if this trip fits your experience and skill level.)
6. … are keen to fly some smaller XC flights (the Atlas Mountains, offer some great thermalling and XC potential).
7. … a pilot with a good number of practice hours on the ground, and therefore able to manage your wing well and launch independently.
8. … comfortable with cross country landings, assessing conditions in-flight for landing options without windsocks.

What will we do?

Friday the 21st of February is a Travel day, this is when we do Airport shuttles, get you settled in and do a gear and experience check. This way we get to know your flying style a bit.

On the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of February we plan to go to the coast, this is where you can get aqcuinted with your equipment, especially if you have not flown for a while. There is excellent laminar wind, which is great for practicing on the ground and do some soaring and toplandings.
(*Depending on how much we like this idea as a group we can also spend the night at the coast).

During the week we will be in Aguergour mostly, where we will plan some fun basic XC activities.

Friday the 28st of February is a Travel day, this is when we do Airport shuttles to bring you back to the airport in either Marrakech or Agadir (if previously requested).

For your cultural awareness it might be good to know that the Ramadan starts on the last day of the tour. There will be a very good vibe on the days before and you might want to consider staying the weekend to fly a bit more and have a cultural experience. This is at your own risk.

*This itinerary is weather dependent. On days we cannot fly (which are rare), we will do our best to organise another activity like camel rides, visiting a local market, etc.

Where will we stay?

This tour is conveniently located by the Atlas Mountains with a good variety of flying sites in drivable distance. For this tour you will not be lugging all your gear around. Instead we will be based in a wonderful Gîte for 7 nights, and will visit the flying sites from there. The areas we will be flying in are relatively underdeveloped and housing options tend to be quite basic. In our case, the accommodation is shared, and showers are warm. Breakfast and dinner will be included, which will be delicious local Moroccan cuisine.

What is included?

1. Accommodation (shared room) with breakfast and dinner.
2. Airport transfers to/from Marrakech airport (or Agadir on request) on travel days.
3. Site intro.
4. Daily weather condition briefing.
5. Guided flights on XC days.
6. Transportation to the launch (if using our transportation option).
7. Dedicated retrieves (if using our transportation option).
8. Post-flight coaching and track-log review.
9. Instrument setup support.
10. Local SIM cards (activated and ready to go).
11. Daily launch fees.
12. Tour Gift.

What's Not Included:
1. Airline flights.
2. Tandem flights.
3. Restaurant meals out.
4. Any type of insurance.

What are the requirements?

Important documents:
1. Valid paragliding license
2. Medical and Accident insurance covering paragliding in Morocco, like MedJet, Global Rescue, etc. However, you must be aware that we are in Africa, that there is no helicopter rescue and the medical centers are not up to standard.
3. Travel cancellation insurance is strongly recommended.
4. Passport, valid for at least 6 more months.
5. Registration with local federation.

Gear:
1. Complete paragliding gear suitable for your skill level. Recommended is a modern EN-B Glider. This is not a tour for racing Enzo’s, but feel free to bring one to use in your own time.
2. Glider needs to have been checked in the last two years or after 200 hours, whichever came first.
3. Reserve parachute re-packed within the last 6 months. We will check this on the day of arrival.
4. A 2-meter band radio, which is crucial for us to be able to work together; best is a high-quality radio like ICOM, Yaesu, etc.
5. If you do not have a navigation device we suggest to download Naviters SeeYou app to track your flights. This is similar to FlySkyHy or XCTrack.
6. Travellers diarrhea is real in Morocco, bring some imodium or similar, just in case!

Experience:
1. Ideally you come with a bit of cross country experience, most importantly you are able to take off and land independently, even in unknown uneven terrain, without windsock, etc.
2. Around >50 thermal flying hours recommended
3. Good level of Spanish, and preferably also English.
